Henry Fagan Consulting Engineers & Project Managers designed and detailed a 54m x 55m x 12m deep cooling water intake and settling pit at Tanjung Bin coal-fired power station in Johor, Malaysia. At 2100MW, this power station is one of the largest of its kind in SE Asia, has won awards for emissions reduction and was completed on time and under budget. The intake was designed to handle 12m water pressure and deal with an extremely corrosive environment.
The project required 15 000m³ of reinforced concrete, all designed to stringent crack control requirements in a difficult coastal environment. Extensive use of caissons, sheet piling and bentonite during construction in order to provide the right environment for the casting of concrete. 10 years after the successful completion of the first phase of this project, a further 1000MW were added, for which Henry Fagan were appointed in a similar role.
