MEGA PROJECT

Gautrain

The Gautrain commenced operations on 8 June 2010 and is currently servicing three of South Africa’s Metropolitans namely: City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, and City of Ekurhuleni. The service was introduced to alleviate the traffic challenges of Johannesburg and Pretoria. The network transports 50,000 passengers per month and it is estimated that it has completed 131 million trips since inception.

The Gautrain was developed as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) under the auspices of the Gauteng Provincial Government. The current PPP is coming to an end in March 2026 and the Gautrain Management Agency appointed a transactional advisor to facilitate the procurement of the new concessionaire.
