MEGA PROJECT

Gautrain

The Gautrain commenced operations on 8 June 2010 and is currently servicing three of South Africa’s Metropolitans namely: City of Joburg, City of Tshwane and City of Ekurhuleni. The service was introduced to alleviate the traffi c challenges of Johannesburg and Pretoria. The network transports 50,000 passengers per month and it is estimated that it has completed 131 million trips since inception.

The Gautrain was developed as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) under the auspices of the Gauteng Provincial Government. The current PPP is coming to an end in March 2026 and the Gautrain Management Agency appointed a transactional advisor to facilitate the procurement of the new concessionaire.
